Ideas on double dip recession? The firestorm over Clinton Portis' remarks about TV Azteca's Ines Sainz and the apparent "discomfort" she felt inside the New York Jets' locker room over a week ago, appears to have died down. The NFL has issued a an official statement on the matter and has concluded that though there was no sexual harassment took place, the Jets did act in an unprofessional manner during her visit there. After meeting with the Jets' players, coaches and owner Roger Goodell, NFL commissions, said members of the acted in an unprofessional manner but found no evidence that Sainz was ''bumped, touched, brushed against or otherwise subjected to any physical contact'' by any player or coach. The media and critics seemed to react more strongly to comments from NFL players on the incident than the actual incident itself.

Below, Inez Sainz of TV Azteca explains the firestorm over her interview with the New York Jets. After tweeting that she felt "unfortable" and "embarrassed" by the Jets' behavior during her time there, she then attempts to downplay the controversy.

Jemele Hill I am sure you have heard about the controversy involving Inez Sainz, the TV Azteca reporter, and the New York Jets. Sainz was interviewing Mark Sanchez of the Jets last week and said she "felt unfortable" and "harassed" during her time there. Apparently during one of the passing drills a Jets coach purposely threw footballs in Sainz' direction so the players could accidentally bump into her. Apparently Jets' defensive lineman, Jason Taylor, was so excited that felt the need to work on his "pass catching skills" also. The NFL and the Jets' owner have gotten involved to gather the facts and ensure the NFL lockerroom is open to all. Interesting enough is that Sainz has not filed a formal complaint against the Jets. The dust up was pursued more by womens groups and other female reporters on her behalf so the actual "fact pattern" has never been divulged. Yet that hasn't stop journalists, pro athletes, commentators, etc. from giving their two cents. Yesterday Clinton Portis of the Wasington Redskins went on the Mike Wise Show hosted by Holden Kushner and Brian Mitchell. Eventually the conversation turned to Sainz and Portis pretty much said that, and I am paraphrasing here, " . . . women are attracted to men with six packs and core strength . . ." This caught the ire of the NFL who spoke with the Redskins who spoke with Portis who rescinded his remarks about six hours later.Portis' comments had Twitter all abuzz. Jemele Hill, columnist on ESPN's First Take, went back and forth with the Shock Exchange on the matter. The Twitter conversation went as follows:

Late in the Ravens - Jets game, Ray Lewis shows Dustin Keller the true meaning of Hard Knocks. But to his credit, Keller shook off the hit and made a catch on fourth down that fell one yard short of extending the Jets' last drive.

Some good advice? A few days ago I Floyd Mayweather Jr. was jailed briefly on a felony charge after his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, alleged that he beat her up and stole her cell phone during an argument in front of their three children. Mayweather, 33, was released from Clark County jail on $3,000 bail after being booked on a grand larceny charge. I did not give it much credence because there were not enough facts to form an opinion and domestic disputes oftentimes the facts can be sort of murky. The police report states that (i) Mayweather threatened to kill the mother of his three children and her boyfriend, Chicago Bulls player CJ Watson, (ii) After Mayweather assaulted Harris, she made her way to the hospital with a girlfriend where she was treated for injuries to her face and arms, and (iii) Harris described her relationship with Mayweather as "15 years of on again, off again" and the violence began when Harris returned home, the home that Mayweather owns, from a night out with Watson.According to TMZ, Harris stated that Mayweather began yelling at her "I'm going to kill you and the man your (sic) are messing around with . . . I'm going to have you both disappear". When I heard the involvement of CJ Watson, I immediately thought back to my childhood during gatherings with my family in VA. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors would be everywhere dancing, playing cards, talking smack, etc. But there was always that one song by Johnny Taylor that would send the women into a frenzy . . . they would get up and dance, tell "inside jokes" and generally have a "cheshire cat grin" plastered across their faces. The lyrics would go something like this:

As many of you know, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is upon us. Twice a year American fashion designers display their designes to a crowd of journalists, celebrities, socialites, and "fashionistas". This year the event has been moved from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center which has 30% more space. Not only do fashionistas get to see the new collections from their favorite designers, but they get to rub elbows with celebrities that they would see on the regular. That said, Coach Baker has turned down all invitations to Fashion Week this year.
Can you imagine all those beautiful women dressed in haute coutoure and all lathered up over the various festivities? The parties . . . tall tales being told, etc. Apparently, the mere thought of these women asking for his phone number, grabbing on him on him, asking him "What your name is" causes him extreme agita . . . "Yeah I think I am going avoid Fashion Week this year. Though it is probably one the best time to meet beautiful, smart, accomplished women, on Friday night I will probably hit the gym (in order to keep my weight up) and then head home so I can curl up with a good book. That way I will be well rested to watch college and pro football on Saturday and Sunday. Besides, the the last time I went a Fashion Week event this happened . . . " -----> http://clicky.me/1hWf .

Lakers forward Matt Barnes was arrested and booked Wednesday night into Sacramento County Main Jail on a domestic charge for alledgedly obstructing the use of a telephone line, according to a report in the Sacramento Bee. According to the report, Matt and a woman believed to be his girlfriend had a physical confrontation and both persons had visible injuries. Barnes posted a $50,000 bond and is to appear in court early next week. Formerly with the Orlando Magic, Barnes recently signed a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and is known as one of the best defensive players in the league. Barnes may be better known for his appearance on Basketball Wives, the hit docudrama on VH-1 created by Shaunie O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal's ex-wife. The showed featured Matt and his fiance, Gloria Govan, and their two kids. There were a few verbal altercations between Govan and Dwight Howard's ex-girlfriend on the show as well as a twitter beef between Barnes and a few other castmembers, resulting in a Twitter trending topic #MattBarnesWho. Matt and Govan were scheduled to get married but abruptly called off the wedding this summer.

What goes around . . . Gizmodo (www.gizmodo.com), the technology weblog that mainly covers consumer electronics, recently performed a study to of different cultures (African Americans, causcasians, asians, etc.) to determine what makes each culture distinctly different from each other. (i) Gizmodo selected 526,000 OkCupid users at random and divided them into groups by their (self-stated) race, (ii) then took all these people's profile essays (280 million words in total!) and isolated the words and phrases that made each racial group's essays statistically distinct from the others'. The results for African Americans were in line with what you would expect with African American men mentioning that they liked ESPN, god-fearing, soul food, playing basketball, Menace to Society, Kanye West, Gucci Mane, Alicia Keys, Boondocks, XBox360 and playstation (what the what ... how old are these dudes?), etc. African American women mentioned soul food, The Color Purple, Alicia Keys, Tyler Perry, lip gloss, god-fearing. Since the men liked Boondocks and the women like Tyler Perry, it seems clear where the two groups would side in the recent spoof by Boondocks. I also thought it peculiar that the men are predisposed to Gucci Mane, despite the fact that he (and a few other Southern rappers) get knocked publicly for his lyricism (or lack there of). Gizodo drew a few conclusions from the study but one in particular, pertaining to African American women threw me for a loop:
