SENATOR SCHUMER vs. ADIDAS: 100 NY JOBS AT STAKE |

Politician who supports his base In November Senator Chuck Schumer cited that shoe and apparel maker Adidas, which has an exclusive contract with the NBA to supply the league's teams with their official uniforms, plans to end its contract with a New York-based supplier and will for the first time produce the game jerseys worn by NBA players outside the U.S. Schumer called for Adidas to reverse its decision and continue to make NBA jerseys in the U.S. - a move that would save approximately 100 jobs at American Classic Outfitters (ACO) in Perry, NY. Many more jobs would be saved throughout the country. ACO has a rich history of designing and manufacturing custom athletic uniforms for sports teams, in addition to the NBA. ACO has been making NBA jerseys for nearly half a century and prides itself in its long-established tradition of hand-crafted quality team uniforms.
Half of NBA Jerseys Produced by ACOApproximately 50% of NBA jerseys are produced at ACO's Perry facility and all of the WNBA game jerseys and jerseys worn by the NBA's development league. Adding insult to injury, in 2008 Adidas signed an exclusive 11-year contract with ACO to provide customized sports apparel. ACO then invested over $1 million in facility improvements and eqipment in order to produce the game day jersery. If Adidas follows through with its plans to not honor its contractual commitment and manufacture all jerseys at a factory in Thailand, the move would cost ACO $7 million in annual revenue. According to Senatory Schumer, "It is flat wrong for Adidas to move the production of jerseys worn by NBA players outside the United States when there are U.S. companies that have done this work so well for so long. And to do it in this economic climate adds insult to injury ... A short-sighted decision to destroy over a hundred years of history by moving production of game jerseys overseas cannot stand. The jerseys the the NBA players wear should be made in the USA, plain and simple ... Adidas must do the right thing and reverse this decision, and continue to produce all these jerseys domestically at ACO. To do anything else is an insult to the American worker ans sports fans everywhere in America." Go here http://clicky.me/7za for more on Senator Schumer vs. Adidas. FINALLY ...
