So the war of words continues. Dan Gilbert reacts to Lebron's decision to bolt Cleveland for Miami by calling him a "coward" and a "traitor". Jessie Jackson defends Lebron by saying Gilbert's comments were inappropriate and that the NBA should investigate further. I thought Gilbert would fall back but my man showed some heart and came back at Jackson with the following response, which of course I had to put in laymen's terms. I strongly disagree with Rev. Jesse Jackson's recent comments INTERPRETATION: Gilbert strong disagrees with Jesse Jackson's comments. He doesn't offer up any emperical evidence to the contrary . . . we'll just have to take his word for it.
. . . and we are not going to engage in any related discussion on it
INTERPRETATION: Yet another Corporate ploy by Gilbert. Here he sends the message to Jackson and the reader that "I'm in charge here". Gilbert takes a strong posture, and dictates the terms to Jackson. That fact that Jackson never asked to have a discussion or would even find it worth his while to engage Gilbert is irrelevant. Going forward, we're very excited about the Cavaliers and the positive future of our region
INTERPRETATION: Yeah right. . . . and the positive future of our region INTERPRETATION: This comment serves two purposes, (i) it implies that the economic future of the greater Cleveland area is in peril, and it ties Lebron's departure to excerbating the area's decline and (ii) it implies that Gilbert and the "region" are connected. Now everyone in the region will see Gilbert and the Cavaliers as one of them. Gilbert could have said ". . . and the future of the fight to end global warming" and immediately, millions of environmentalists would have become Cavs fans. |
