(VIDEO) BULLS' CJ WATSON "OTHER MAN" IN MAYWEATHER TRIANGLE? PDF Print E-mail

Some good advice?
A few days ago I Floyd Mayweather Jr. was jailed briefly on a felony charge after his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, alleged that he beat her up and stole her cell phone during an argument in front of their three children.  Mayweather, 33, was released from Clark County jail on $3,000 bail after being booked on a grand larceny charge.  I did not give it much credence because there were not enough facts to form an opinion and domestic disputes oftentimes the facts can be sort of murky.  The police report states that (i) Mayweather threatened to kill the mother of his three children and her boyfriend, Chicago Bulls player CJ Watson, (ii) After Mayweather assaulted Harris, she made her way to the hospital with a girlfriend where she was treated for injuries to her face and arms, and (iii) Harris described her relationship with Mayweather as "15 years of on again, off again" and the violence began when Harris returned home, the home that Mayweather owns, from a night out with Watson.

According to TMZ, Harris stated that Mayweather began yelling at her "I'm going to kill you and the man your (sic) are messing around with . . . I'm going to have you both disappear".  When I heard the involvement of CJ Watson, I immediately thought back to my childhood during gatherings with my family in VA.  Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors would be everywhere dancing, playing cards, talking smack, etc.  But there was always that one song by Johnny Taylor that would send the women into a frenzy . . . they would get up and dance, tell "inside jokes" and generally have a "cheshire cat grin" plastered across their faces.  The lyrics would go something like this:

Who was playing checkers with your 'ol lady while you was out playing checkers? Somebody was playing checkers with my 'ol lady, while I was out playing checkers.

I would marvel at what was so interesting or funny about this song.  It wasn't until I was a grown man that I learned the "true meaning" of Johnny Taylor's lyrics.  The Maywether / Josie Harris / CJ Harris saga is a reminder that over 30 years later, the game hasn't changed and Taylor's "advice" still rings true. . . . the Game is the Game . . . always.  Keep reading for the video of Johnny Taylor below.
