SPRUNG! D. Wade Caught Wearing Bulls Jersey PDF Print E-mail

Image Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Championship between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat was the most watched conference finals in cable network history.  Which also means that Taj Gibson's mounting of Dwyane Wade was also the most watched in cable network history  >> http://clicky.me/TajGibson .  Pictures and videos of the assault have circulated the Internet and Gibson gained over 4,000 new followers on Twitter.  In an amazing twist, Dwyane Wade may now be Gibson's biggest fan and was recently seen wearing a Bulls' jersey, seemingly in honor of Gibson.  The psychological term for this phenomenon is "Stockholm Syndrome", where hostages/victims are known to develop empathy and positive feelings towards their captors/tormentors.  Probably the most famous victim of Stockholm Syndrome was Patty Hearst, the granddaughter of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst.  In February 1974 19 year old Patty was kidnapped by left wing guerillas, Simbianese Liberation Army (SLA), who demanded aid to the poor from her father in exchange for her release.  The bargain fell through and by April 1974, Patty announced that she had joined the SLA and that their cause was now her cause.  Keep reading for other symptons of "Stockholm Syndrome" or as my grandma would say "being sprung like a screen door!"  If D. Wade starts turning over the ball doing crunch time, now you know why.

According to Wikipedia, hostages who develop Stockholm Syndrome:

  • Often see the perpetrator as giving life by simply not taking it
  • Are often isolated from other people and have on the captor's perspective available
  • The hostage taker threatens to kill the victim and gives the perception as being able to do so
  • The captive sees the perpetrator as showing some degree of kindness.  Kindness serves as the cornerstone of Stockholm syndrome; the conditional will develop unless the captor exhibits it in some form toward the hostage.  However, captives often misinterpres a lack of abuse as kindness and may develop feelings of appreciation for this perceived benevolence
  • The victim may go from being an 85% free-throw shooter to 45% during crunch-time
  • The victim may become inexplicably turnover-prone
  • Trying to gain his tormentor's affection, the victim may stand under the basket as a prop while his tormentor posterizes him with a game-changing dunk
